THE LOST SESSIONS COME TO LIFE IN “THE ANTHOLOGY, PART IV: GOING HOME”
At home in Oklahoma, Garth found a new life that centered around his daughters and Trisha Yearwood. “When I’d retired five years earlier, I didn’t know what I would find,” he says. “What I found was heaven . . . and then some, believe me.”
While Garth didn't plan to release any new music while he was out of the spotlight in Oklahoma, the music industry came calling. Going Home details Walmart’s proposal to release an exclusive boxed set with songs “from the vaults.” The result was Garth Brooks: The Limited Series, which contained Sevens, Scarecrow, Double Live, and The Lost Sessions, a collection of previously unreleased recordings from 1997 to 2001.
“That’s the good thing about Allen Reynolds,” Garth says of his long-time producer, with whom he’s currently in the studio again. “Just because a recording hadn’t appeared on a record yet didn’t mean it wasn’t worthy. Sometimes it just meant the song’s time was still yet to come.”
So, how did a full-time dad in Oklahoma have time to go to Nashville, comb through the vaults, and breathe new life into songs that hadn’t seen the light of day in years? The Anthology describes Garth’s daily routine at the time--fix the girls breakfast and take them to school, fly on a Walmart corporate jet to Nashville and work in the studio, fly back in time to pick the girls up from school, then soccer, dinner, homework, and bedtime.
Going Home also explains how, in another significant development, the release of The Limited Series led to Garth’s ownership of his master recordings. Included with this volume are six discs showcasing tracks from The Lost Sessions; Blame It All on My Roots: Five Decades of Influences; and original cuts from Garth’s early Capitol releases.
The Anthology, Part IV: Going Home is available for pre-order now at TalkShopLive. It is available by itself or as a 3-pack for holiday gift-giving. You can also complete your Anthology collection by ordering a bundle including Parts I, II, and III.
