The BIG 615’s Storme Warren spent the past week hosting the annual Maui Songwriters Festival, which took on new meaning in its seventh year…following the August 2023 wildfires that ravaged portions of the island and notably the historic town of Lahaina.
As emcee of the week-long event, Warren was surrounded by a variety of Nashville singer-songwriters, producers and artists at acoustic showcases where they performed their biggest hits while also sharing the stories behind their lyrics and melodies. The Ritz-Carlton Maui Kapalua provided the backdrop and location for performances by such talents as Elle King, Ryan Larkins, Drake Milligan, David Lee Murphy, Chase Rice and Old Dominion…all of whom could also be heard in interviews that aired on The BIG 615!
Storme used the opportunity to raise awareness and provide a firsthand account of what the people of Maui have been through – and are still facing – as a result of the devastating fires after seeing burned areas himself. “People in Maui asked me to spread the word – there’s a misconception that they want people to stay away while they rebuild, but they need people to come back. ‘We need people to support this island. We’re based on tourism,’ they told me. They need people back to help them rebound financially,” he recounted on The BIG 615.
The Storme Warren Show can be heard weekdays on The BIG 615 (7:00am-1:00pm CT)…and you can also catch him weekends hosting The BIG 20 Country Countdown on TuneIn!
