GARTH BROOKS AND THE RECORDING INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA REMEMBER AND HONOR CHARLEY PRIDE WITH RIAA LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

On October 25, Garth Brooks joined the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in remembering and honoring the legacy of the late Charley Pride at an intimate ceremony at the National Museum of African American Music in Nashville.  Brooks performed acoustic versions of several of Pride’s best-loved songs, including “Kiss an Angel Good Morning,” “Mountain of Love,” “Is Anybody Goin’ to San Antone?” and “Roll On, Mississippi” before presenting the RIAA Lifetime Achievement Award to Pride’s son, Dion.

Brooks explained how he and Pride were often seated next to each other at Country Music Hall of Fame events and shared that when they’d see each other, Pride would launch into the first few lines of Brooks’ hit, “That Summer.”  

Brooks also talked about recording “Where the Cross Don’t Burn” with Pride.  The song, about the friendship between "a white boy and a Black old man," is on his current album, FUN, which was released just weeks before Pride’s death.

“You thank your lucky stars,” said Brooks, about having the opportunity to collaborate with Pride.  “You feel like when you tell your children, your grandchildren, some of the coolest things you got to do in this business? There's no way you can tell that list without Charley."
