GARTH BROOKS HONORS KENT BLAZY AT NASHVILLE SONGWRITERS HALL OF FAME INDUCTION

Garth Brooks joined a star-studded lineup at the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Nov. 1 and performed “If Tomorrow Never Comes” in honor of Kent Blazy, one of ten new Hall of Fame members recognized for writing the songs that tell the story of our lives.  

Blazy, Buddy Cannon, Brett James, Spooner Oldham and John Scott Sherrill are the class of 2020 inductees, while Rhett Akins, Toby Keith, Amy Grant, Steve Earle, and Bobbie Gentry make up the class of 2021.  Both groups were honored at the event, which was not held last year due to COVID.

Blazy and Brooks co-wrote Brooks’ first #1 song, “If Tomorrow Never Comes,” beginning a powerful creative partnership that also yielded “Ain’t Goin’ Down (‘Til the Sun Comes Up),” “Somewhere Other Than the Night,” “She’s Gonna Make It,” and many other hit songs by Brooks.

Brooks, however, maintains that Blazy’s biggest hit was introducing him to Trisha Yearwood, who at the time was singing demos of his songs.

“I can't imagine how different my life story would have been if not for Bob Doyle introducing me to Kent,” Brooks remarked.  “Kent changed my life for the better with not just his songwriting, but his friendship and his love.  Introducing me to Trisha will always be the difference for me between just 'being on this planet’ and living life to its fullest. I'm so happy for him to finally be where he belongs--in the Hall of Fame.”
