Garth Brooks Relives the Comeback Tour—Backstage and On Stage--as the Anthology Conversation Series Continues
Garth Brooks continues his 5-part Anthology V conversation series on March 24 by reliving his record-shattering arena comeback tour with road manager Bryan Kennedy and production manager Brian Petree. Go backstage and onstage with them here at 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT. Listen to the audio live on The Garth Channel and hear highlights on the BIG 615 and Tailgate Radio, all part of The Sevens Radio Network on TuneIn.
The Anthology conversation series celebrates the April 4 release of Garth Brooks’s The Anthology, Part V: The Comeback, The First Five Years at Amazon and TalkShopLive. Each episode features Garth chatting with the people who made the comeback with him. Past conversations included musicians Mike Palmer (drums), Jimmy Mattingly (fiddle), and Chris Leuzinger (guitar); Anthology author Warren Zanes; and singer-songwriter Karyn Rochelle.
Garth continues the series on March 24 with Bryan “Big Chuck” Kennedy and Brian Petree. His conversation with Kennedy traces their friendship from when they met following one of Garth’s sets at the Bluebird Cafe, to writing songs together, to Bryan’s opening the ’96-’98 World Tour, and finally working as road manager on the comeback tour. Recalling the frenetic pace of multiple shows in each city (and often two shows in one day), Kennedy says, “Even after finishing it, I don’t believe it.”
Garth’s conversation with Brian Petree stretches back to when they met as college students at Oklahoma State. One of the first crew members to be hired soon after Garth got his recording contract, Brian became production manager during the ’96-’98 World Tour. He remembers getting the call from Garth when he was ready to launch the comeback tour and describes the groundwork he laid to make it happen. He and Garth recall specific cities and arenas and talk about the challenges of playing multiple shows in each city to satisfy audience demand and keep scalpers at bay.
The final episodes of the Anthology series will stream on March 31, when Garth chats with radio and TV host Storme Warren and sound engineer Mark Miller; and April 4, when Trisha Yearwood joins the conversation.
The Anthology, Part V: The Comeback, The First Five Years, will be available April 4 at Amazon and TalkShopLive. It comes with over 150 never-before-seen photos, 6 CDs and 66 songs, including remastered versions of tracks from Garth’s early catalog, road-tested favorites from Man Against Machine and Gunslinger, and live recordings from the World Tour.
