GARTH BROOKS DEALS A WINNING HAND WITH “TWO OF A KIND, WORKIN’ ON A FULL HOUSE” RETRO T-SHIRT, AVAILABLE SEPTEMBER 2
The next Garth Brooks vintage t-shirt will celebrate the #1 hit, “Two of a Kind, Workin’ On a Full House," and the No Fences Tour of 1991. Featuring a brightly colored playing card design, the shirt will be available exclusively in the merch store at Friends in Low Places Bar & Honky Tonk in Nashville, beginning September 2.
“Two of a Kind,” Garth’s 5th Billboard #1 single, was almost recorded by another artist, John Northrup. As he recalls in The Anthology, Part I: The First Five Years, Garth had heard the song on a demo tape and immediately loved it. He called John and asked him to let him know if for any reason his record deal fell through. That’s exactly what happened, and John called Garth right away.
“We cut it immediately,” said Garth, “because we didn’t want anybody else getting a hold on it or anything.”
The 1991 No Fences Tour marked a major transition in Garth’s touring history. He began the year playing fairs, festivals, and clubs and opening for headliners like Reba, the Judds, and Kenny Rogers. Before 1991 was over, he had sold out two shows at Reunion Arena in Dallas that were filmed for his first network television special, “This is Garth Brooks!”
Garth will bring back a “new” retro shirt on the first Monday of each month until the end of the year. They are available exclusively at the merch store at Friends in Low Places Bar & Honky-Tonk at 411 Broadway, limit seven shirts per customer, while supplies last. The first vintage tee, released March 7 to celebrate the grand opening of FILP, dated back to 1991 and Ropin’ the Wind.
