Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood Share Their Favorite Songs, Gifts And Advice for Valentine's Day
Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood celebrated their 18th wedding anniversary in 2023. For this Valentine's Day, Cindy Watts sat down with the happy couple and asked them some sweet and fun questions about each other and the holiday of love. They shared their favorite songs, gifts, advice for Valentines everywhere and more. Regardless of numbers on the calendar, Garth and Trisha say to love each other like every day is Valentine's Day.
Garth said, remember love comes in many forms.
"Love one another," he advised. "Let's all work hard on that. I know it's Valentine's Day, and it's supposed to be romantic. But let's put it out there that it's people loving people."
Garth Brooks:
What is Valentine’s Day to you?
It’s not about the day, it’s a celebration or recognition of a love that lives all year round.
What makes someone your Valentine?
I think this is something you ‘discover’ over time. There is the falling in love, dreams of what it would be like together…I get that. But after you get together, how do you feel when you are apart? THAT is what made me understand who my soulmate was and is. She is my cape and my Kryptonite. I can do anything when she is beside me and nothing when she’s not.
What’s your favorite thing about your Valentine?
Her touch. She has no idea what it does to me. I made a life out of finding the words to describe scenes, emotions, stories…but I just can’t put into words what I feel when she touches me. And she ALWAYS seems to know the moments I need it most.
What is the perfect song that describes your Valentine or your love for your Valentine?
“Something In the Way She Moves” by James Taylor describes a woman…she has the power to go where no one else can find me…that’s Trisha. And I feel fine anytime she’s around me now…
The song that would describe my love for Miss Yearwood would be Diamond Rio’s "ONE MORE DAY."
What’s your favorite gift you have given one another?
A chair…no, let me rephrase that, THE chair. We have a two person chair we basically live in. (laughs) We have had the best conversations in that chair. Watched the greatest movies in that chair. Watched the worst movies in that chair.
What would be your best advice for other Valentines?
First of all, only you know what works for your relationship…with that said, the fool proof, never fail answer is… your partner is always right :)
Trisha Yearwood:
What makes someone your Valentine?
It’s not about the day. It’s the daily things…the little things that aren’t little at all. Someone thinking of you, not necessarily in the “big” ways, but things like making your coffee in the morning. Picking up something at the grocery store that you know your partner likes (m&ms??) Just knowing that special someone has your back. That’s what a valentine is to me.
What’s your favorite thing about your Valentine?
Well, my Valentine is the love of my life, and I know how special this relationship is, and how lucky I am. My favorite thing about him is that he’s truly my best friend. I can talk to him about anything, and he knows everything about me, and loves me anyway!
What is the perfect song that describes your Valentine or your love for your Valentine?
The song that perfectly describes my Valentine is James Taylor’s “How Sweet it Is”. We don’t have a “song” but if we did, for me that would be it. I needed you, and there you were.
What’s your favorite gift you’ve given one another?
The chair. A couple of years ago, we went shopping for a two-person chair. I don’t think either of us really had any idea how much we would love this chair. It’s not pretty. (Ok, he thinks it’s pretty!) It’s a reclining two-seat chair. At least it doesn’t have cup holders! We find ourselves so busy, which is great. We love what we get to do. The chair represents safety and togetherness for me. When we “get to the chair” at night, we cover up in a big blanket and snuggle. Sometimes we watch tv, sometimes we nap, sometimes we just talk about our day or whatever is going on. It’s our “time,” and it’s precious.
What is Valentine’s Day?
Valentine’s Day is a day to show someone you care about them. If you’re married, that’s kinda easy. Single people don’t always love this day, because the focus in marketing is so much about couples, but it’s really about more than that. Garth loves to send flowers to his daughters on this day, and I have single girlfriends who throw Galentine’s parties, so the day doesn’t have to be just about couples. It’s a day to remind us to love one another, and, I say the same thing about Christmas…I wish we could remember to take this loving spirit we share on the day and carry it throughout the year.
What is your best advice for other Valentines?
I would say…to guys especially…IF she says, “Oh I don’t want flowers!” or “Please don’t buy me any candy.”…DO NOT BELIEVE HER. If she tells you she doesn’t need anything for Valentine’s day, get her something anyway! Trust me, fellas.
