No Fences has been called the greatest country record of all time. Garth’s 1990 album contained riveting performances of material both rich and diverse. Seemingly overnight the debut single, "Friends in Low Places," made Garth Brooks a worldwide household name. The album contains two of country music’s most popular slice-of-life songs, “Two Of A Kind (Workin’ On a Full House)” and “Unanswered Prayers,” as well as the controversial “The Thunder Rolls,” the video for which was initially banned.
No Fences won Album of the Year awards from the Country Music Association and the Academy of Country Music, while "Friends in Low Places" won Single of the Year from both the CMA and ACM. "The Thunder Rolls," which Garth co-wrote, won Video of the Year at the CMA Awards, and Favorite Country Single of the Year at the ‘92 American Music Awards, where No Fences was also named Favorite Country Album. The CMA and ACM named Garth Entertainer of the Year in ‘91, and Billboard named him #1 Album Artist, #1 Country Artist, #1 Country Albums Artist and #1 Country Singles Artist.
No Fences is RIAA certified for sales in excess of 16 million units.
