Garth's first Christmas album contained traditional and original Christmas songs including “Go Tell It On The Mountain,” “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen,” “White Christmas, “Silent Night” and “What Child Is This.”
On recording a Christmas album when the temperatures were above 90 degrees, Garth said: "This is the most fun I have ever had making an album. Christmas albums are usually cut in the summer months, so our engineer, Mark Miller, strung Christmas lights all over the studio -- it was great. I'd make this album every day of my life if I could because you're singing about what counts." He told Music Express that Beyond the Season “…is the [album] I’m really fired up about. For some reason, it’s killing me. I listen to it all the time. We cut some standards from as far back as the 12th century, and there’s other stuff just days old…this really feels good.” Canada’s The Record called Beyond the Season “…the Yule season’s biggest smash hit in years.”
One single was released on November 6th for the Christmas season: “The Old Man’s Back In Town.”
Chart positions: Billboard Top 200 Chart: peaked at #2; Billboard Country Albums chart: peaked at #2.
Beyond the Season is RIAA certified for sales in excess of 3 million units. Sales of Beyond the Season raised over 2 million dollars for Feed the Children.
