Scarecrow is filled with songs like the fun and uplifting “Wrapped Up In You,” good-natured "Big Money," wry "Rodeo or Mexico" and “Squeeze Me In,” the fiery duet with Trisha Yearwood. Some have said that the George Jones duet, "Beer Run,” is the Possum’s best vocal work of the past decade. The emotionally stunning “When You Come Back to Me Again” is a rarity, a rough mix that became a perfect record. But there’s a flip side to the collection, darker songs like "The Storm," "Thicker Than Blood" and "Pushing Up Daisies."

Scarecrow was released on November 13, 2001, and debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 and Country Albums charts with first week sales of 465,523.  This marked the 7th time Brooks debuted at #1 on the Top 200 chart (more times than any other artist) and the 9th time to debut atop the Country Albums chart.  It was the highest-selling debut week for a country album since the release of Garth Brooks Double Live in 1998.  It was also among the 10 best-selling country albums of 2001. Garth was named Artist of the Decade at the American Music Awards in 2000 and by the Academy of Country Music in 1999.

Scarecrow is RIAA certified for sales in excess of 5 million units.
